Eugene Alton Beaulieu

Gene was born in 1932 in Fertile Minnesota. He attended Mentor Grade school, Roseau Middle School, and Fertile Middle and High School. In High School he lettered in football all four years and was the team Captain in 1949 and 1950. He lettered in Basketball for three years, being the Captain of the team in 1950, and All Region in 1950. He lettered in Track and Field for four years. He played baseball for the American Legion and Town Ball teams in Fertile.

During college he attended the University of North Dakota. He played Full Back on the Football team in 1950 and 1951 before injuring his knee and returning home to work and start a family.

He married his High School sweetheart in 1952, Shirley Ann Maixner. They were married at St. Anne’s parish in Crookston, Minnesota and started raising their Catholic family. They moved to the Twin Cities in 1955 due to his job at the Post Office. They joined Transfiguration parish in the spring of 1956. They proceeded to have eight children, who all start with the letter “T”: Tim, Tyrone, Thomas, Tamara, Todd, Ted, Tracey, and Tricia. Gene and Shirley sent all eight children to Transfiguration School.

He is a Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He ushered the 11 o’clock mass with “Red” Klaas for many years.  He was a member of the Transfiguration Men’s Club from the late 1950’s, until the unfortunate close in the late 1980’s. He served as the Treasurer of the Men’s Club which was responsible for fundraising through many different events which helped supply Transfiguration Athletics with the funds it needed to operate. He helped assist coaching Basketball with Hank Preiner at Transfiguration School, and participated in the Men’s Church Basketball and Softball leagues for many years. 

Gene is being honored for his commitment to his faith, his family, his selflessness, and dedication to the church.
